My big adventure starts at 5:47 AM? Yeah, kids have their own plans, and those definitely didn’t include letting me get a good rest before flying out. But hey, at least I had plenty of time to pack and say my goodbyes without a rush.
The Journey to the Airport and Takeoff
With my backpack strapped on and my head buzzing with anticipation, I hit the road at 8:57 AM. I rolled into the airport just after ten, a proper pilgrim with ample time to spare. Bag drop went smoothly, so I could chill with my snack and watch the airport hustle. I killed time waiting for my flight by picturing what lay ahead. Finally, at 12:40 PM, we were airborne, soaring towards our Portuguese adventure. The flight flew by, and at 4:17 PM, we touched down in Porto. My heart did a little leap – I’m here!
First Steps in Porto
Now for the real challenge – finding my way to the city center, snagging my credential (the pilgrim’s passport), and scoring some accommodation. I found the center without too much drama, and accommodation too. The room is supposed to be packed, but for now, it looks like I’ve got royal privacy. Where is everyone? Hopefully, some fellow pilgrims will show up soon so I can share my excitement with them.

The Credential Hunt
Unfortunately, not everything went according to plan. The cathedral where I was supposed to get my credential was already closed. A bit of a bummer, but at least I know where it is and where I need to head tomorrow. They open at 9, so I’ll have to push my start time back a bit. But hey, at least I get to sleep in a little tomorrow morning and get ready for the first day of walking without a rush.

So, tomorrow the real ride begins. I’m curious to see what’s in store. One thing’s for sure – I won’t be bored!
