PCT Day 6: Freezing Night, Snow Adventure, and a Shower!

Freezing Night

Tonight was seriously, unbelievably cold! The wind blasted straight into the tent, and I was shivering pretty hard. Maybe sleeping so close to the water didn’t help. We ended up crammed in with at least twenty tents at the Tentsite, even though the app said it was for ten. But hey, what do they say? Good hikers fit! 😂

Ascent and Snow

We hit the trail around eight, and it was straight uphill from the get-go – pretty much all day. I was wearing my rain pants because we were on the west side of the mountain, mostly in the shade. Plus, that cold wind was blowing all day. But even with all that, today was great. Mid-morning, we ran into snow, and it stuck around for about half the day.

Trying to keep my feet dry and clean became a losing battle pretty quickly. The snow was melting, which meant more water and a trail that gradually turned into an ice rink. Sometimes, it was more about not falling flat on my face. 😂

Burger and WiFi

We rolled into a restaurant at 12:30 PM, which was a welcome sight. I ordered a burger – so fast I didn’t even get a picture. The place was “French,” which I found a little funny. I hopped on the WiFi to confirm I’d run out of data. That finally pushed me to sort out an AT&T plan for $40 a month with unlimited calls, texts, and data. It still bugs me that all prices in the US are listed before tax. 😟

Camp and Shower

We rolled into camp at the end of the day with Charlie (51) and Liam (20). And what awaited us? A shower! Only the second one on the trail, which felt like pure luxury. I could really use a laundry stop too, but honestly, I didn’t have the energy for that today.
