PCT Day 7: Chasing Views, Battling the Chill

A Frosty Night in the Mountains

Last night was another test. I shivered through most of it, but this time the cold seemed to seep up from the ground. I’m wondering if the wind blowing directly onto my sleeping pad, which I couldn’t seem to warm up, was the culprit. No other reason comes to mind. We were sleeping at 1,665 meters (about 5,460 feet), which probably didn’t help either. Still, that early morning walk to the bushes has a certain raw romance to it – a peculiar kind of nature’s charm.

Views and Exhaustion

Today’s route was something else. The views we got along the way were truly something to behold. Out here in these mountains, you feel so small, so insignificant. It’s beautiful, but also a little intimidating.

Unfortunately, I had next to no energy today. I can push through during the day, but these tough, cold nights are starting to catch up with me. Sleeping in this environment is draining, both physically and mentally.

Setting Up Camp and Resting

Around 3 PM, we decided to call it a day and set up camp. I was seriously wiped, so I took a break to catch my breath. I’m hoping tonight will be better and I can actually get some decent sleep. It’s a lot harder to crush those miles when you’re running on empty.
