PCT Day 10: Weather Rollercoaster and Another Day Stuck

Slept Well, But the Cold is Relentless

My watch might say otherwise, but I actually felt well-rested today. We stayed inside a Trail Angel’s house, yet I still slept in my jacket. I figured it would be warm inside, but nope – definitely wasn’t.

Waiting, Cold, and Doubts

In the morning, we waited for our Trail Angel to drive us back to Julian. Meanwhile, the weather outside took a nosedive – temperatures dropped to 5°C and it started raining. Even inside the house felt chilly, and I found myself bundled up in merino, down, and a rain jacket. I felt tired of doing nothing, the cold, and the gloom, which sent me into a bit of a melancholy mood. I’ll admit it, in moments like these, I think I’d rather be home.

Food and Pie in Julian

Just before noon, our Trail Angel returned and drove us into town. First, we grabbed lunch, and then we headed back to Mom’s Pie for pie and hot chocolate.

Snow, Floods, and Frustration

The weather got even worse. It wasn’t just raining anymore; it started snowing. Plus, flood warnings, extreme temperatures, and other unpleasantries are still in effect. This is *not* how I pictured the PCT – instead of being on the trail, we’ve been stuck in place for days. And honestly, these kinds of breaks aren’t cheap either.

A Trailer for the Night and a Laundry Attempt

For tonight, the others and I chipped in to rent a small space, something like a trailer, for $168 for four people. At least we have a warm, dry place to sleep.

I also managed to hit up the local laundromat and try to brighten the day a bit with some clean clothes.
