Night Worries and Morning Pack-Up
Today kicked off a bit rough. Even though I was writing like a champ, I was up and down to the bathroom about four times last night. Was it the cold, or just my stomach finally catching up with the stress? Honestly, I have no clue.
We rolled out of our sleeping bags around seven and started breaking camp. My pack felt absolutely massive – all that food we had to haul. I was already dreading the climb we had to tackle first thing to get into the mountains.
Trailhead Arrival with a Trail Angel
First stop of the day: gas up and return the car. Our Trail Angel was already waiting for us at the drop-off point (I totally spaced and forgot her name 😕), and she drove us back to the trail. On the way, we swung by her place because she needed to grab her dog – a nice, unexpected detour.
Stunning Scenery and a Gusty Wind
Once we hit the trail, a chilly wind greeted us. I zipped up my jacket and we got moving. The plan was to cover 9 miles to a water source, but thanks to the incredible scenery and a decent pace, we ended up putting in more miles. I kept feeling like I was about to run into Vinnetou hiding behind some rock.
However, the wind was relentless, so as soon as we reached our planned campsite, we got straight to setting up tents and getting camp sorted. Dinner was simple but earned.

Sleeping at 1938 Meters
We’re sleeping at an elevation of 1938 meters tonight. I’m expecting it to get seriously cold after dark. Regardless, today was a solid day, and I’m already looking forward to the next adventure.
Today’s Stats:
- Miles Covered: 15.57 miles (including the water detour)
- Miles To Go: 2469 miles
