Day 3: The Last Camp and the Finish Line

Tonight’s sleep was… different. Can’t say if it was better or worse. We were up early, hitting our morning routine just after six. Then it was just a matter of brewing up breakfast and some hot cocoa, packing the tent and our packs, and by nine, we were trail-ready. Today was supposed to be shorter, and honestly, I was curious how we’d fare.

Shared Miles, Well-Earned Cheers

Not long after we set off, we struck up a conversation with another dad pushing his little one in an off-road buggy. The miles flew by thanks to the chat. Our first checkpoint was a natural spring, perfect for refilling bottles. My little trail buddy grabbed some fruit, and a friendly medic at the stop was happy to dab some cream on his bug bites.

After about 30-40 minutes, we pushed on. He was clearly running on fumes, so I alternated between carrying him and letting him walk. My knee, bless its heart, was definitely feeling it by then. But he hung tough! Just before 2 PM, we hit the finish line. The moment he spotted the finish arch, a fresh burst of energy hit him, and he sprinted through, met by a roar of applause and cheers. We got high-fives and a hearty congratulations. I was so incredibly proud, I could feel tears welling up. He’s my hero, plain and simple!

Rest and Well-Earned Rewards

And just like that, it was done! Now, for some well-deserved downtime. We found our tent spot, grabbed a quick shower, and changed into fresh clothes. Our reward? A hefty plate of fries with ketchup, ice cream, and plenty of fun at the playground. After three days on the trail, a good dose of rest is definitely on the agenda.
