Last night was the best sleep yet. My watch might disagree, but I woke up feeling genuinely rested. Of course, fatigue does chip away at patience – that’s just the reality of a multi-day trek. We were up after six, swapped our ‘sleep’ gear for ‘trail’ clothes, and hit the facilities. I found out breakfast was at 7:30, which gave us a bit of time for packing.
For my little hiking partner, though, packing was already dragging. I complicated things by trying to split gear into two piles: what we’d need immediately and what could stay stashed in the pack. This stretched out the packing even more, and both our patience meters were running low. He just wanted the playground; I just wanted to hustle. It escalated to a point where we had to sit down, have a chat, and eventually, a hug. But we got through it, and by 8:30, we were finally enjoying the playground.
Homeward Bound: A Reward for Our Trail Efforts
Our next mission: wait until 10 AM for the bus to shuttle us to the parking lot at Stará Myjava. That’s where our Fjällräven Campfire officially wraps up.
Truth be told, we’re not heading straight home yet. First, a detour to Jihlava for an overnight stay. And as a massive reward for all his hard work, a visit to the local Zoo awaits him.
Honestly, I’m genuinely surprised how well we crushed it. Choosing a project like this for our first camping trip with my son was the absolute best call. Having a marked trail and solid facilities with plenty of water and food was a huge assist. Plus, we met a ton of awesome folks, even if our chats were a bit limited thanks to adventuring with a little hiking partner.
So, next year, round two?
