Another year has passed, and the preparation for the Fjällräven Campfire is inexorably approaching. Just like last year, we’re heading to this great event together with my son. We have several days in nature ahead of us, last-minute packing, and lots of shared experiences on the trail.
Family Weekend, Logistics, and the Journey to Stará Myjava
Our journey actually begins on Saturday when the whole family heads to a family gathering in Moravia. It will be a pleasant introduction to the entire long weekend. On Sunday, my wife and daughter will head back home to Prague, while for my son and me, the second phase of the journey begins.
We’ll move on to my good friend’s place, where we’ll stay overnight. It’s a practical solution so that on Monday morning, we can drive directly to the start at Stará Myjava without much rush. From a logistical perspective, however, this means only one thing: I have to pack all the gear no later than Friday.
Proven Gear and a Bigger Quilt from Sweden
Given that I just returned from the Fjällräven Classic Sweden event a week ago, it looks like a very intense month associated with this brand. Fortunately, I think I’ve cleaned and dried the gear well, so it’s ready to hit the trail again.
The gear setup remains essentially the same as last year because it proved itself. The only change for me is replacing the quilt with a larger one. I tested it last week in the harsh conditions of Sweden, and it performed absolutely fantastically there. I believe it will handle this event with ease and provide me with enough comfort.
Impatience, Experience, and Travel Plans
After this year’s experience hiking on the trail along the Lužnice River, it’s clear that my son has become a real hiker. I therefore believe he will cover a significantly larger portion of the route than last year. Maybe even the entire route on his own? He’s a real trooper.
We’ve gained some experience by now, so I believe and hope we’ll enjoy this year’s event even more. You can look forward to our notes and experiences from the trail again. How do you handle packing for treks with children, and what are your experiences with switching to a quilt?
