Fjällräven Campfire Day 3: A Victorious Arrival in Bojkovice and Pride in My Son

The third day of the Fjällräven Campfire greeted us without rain, but with slightly sore bodies. Although the night was warm and the quilt served as a cozy blanket, the tent was pitched slightly downhill, and constantly adjusting my body took its toll. Ahead of us lay the final stretch of 15.97 kilometers to the campsite in Bojkovice. However, my son and I were looking forward to these last miles.

Morning Pack-Up, A Stiff Neck, and a Break by the Spring

We wake up between five and six in the morning. As six approaches, the camp slowly comes to life, and we’re not far behind. We take care of our morning routines, change clothes, cook breakfast, and gradually pack up all our belongings. Before setting off, my son borrows a hiking pole from Lilka. By 07:50, we’re ready and hit the trail. This year, the route is a bit different than last year – it leads us more through the forest and less along the road. The weather is absolutely perfect, not too hot, not too cold. We call home, and the walking feels truly wonderful. The only downside is my cervical spine, which is protesting with unpleasant pain after a crooked night’s sleep. Along the trail, we gradually meet other hikers and have pleasant chats. Before eleven, we arrive at a checkpoint. My son proudly signs us in as the very last ones, and happily gets a stamp in his passport. We set our backpacks down in a meadow and walk a few hundred meters down to a spring. We refill our water bottles with fresh water, grab some apples, and return to our backpacks. It’s noticeably warmer in the meadow, and loungers become available, so we immediately take advantage of them. We relax, eat apples, and the local medic kindly massages my stiff neck. It helps immensely.

Horses by the Chateau and a Victorious Finish in Bojkovice

At 11:30, we set off again towards the Bojkovice campsite. The path passes pleasantly, although after a while, my son first complains about his tummy and then his leg. I immediately loosen his shoes, adjust the elastic laces, and we refuel with a granola bar. It works, and we continue contentedly, as the finish line is now within reach. Upon entering Bojkovice, we pass by the chateau, where horses are grazing in a pasture. My son is absolutely enthralled because he loves horses. We linger and watch them with excitement. Then, all that’s left is to head down into the town. Looking at the navigation, I realize the route takes a detour around the campsite. I don’t want to unnecessarily extend the kilometers for my son, so we choose a more direct path. After one in the afternoon, we happily stand at the finish line with 15.97 kilometers under our belts. We receive our stamps, shower tokens, a patch, and my son also gets a Fjällräven keychain. It’s incredible! I am immensely proud of my boy. At the finish, we weigh our backpacks: my son’s weighs 1.46 kg, and mine is exactly 14 kg.

Shower, Farewell to Old Socks, and Evening Bliss

We find a spot for our tent, set it up, pick up our bag with clean clothes, and start cooking our meal. Then, finally, we head for the showers. A great shower after a long day was exactly what we needed. While drying my things, I discover a hole in my sock. It was definitely their last trek. They’ve accompanied me on practically all the expeditions described on the website so far, and then some. What a symbolic farewell, right here at the finish! We go to eat, have a nice drink, and my son gets a well-deserved ice cream. At the campsite, we call home, welcome other arrivals, and chat. We make commemorative keychains and, for my son, a leather bracelet as well. For dinner, we have fried cheese, and my son enthusiastically draws his trek experiences – he’s really good at it. Finally, it’s time for roasting sausages and marshmallows. We eat them, brush our teeth, take care of our evening routines, and change into our sleeping gear. It’s 21:24, and within two minutes, we’re both asleep. On the way to the toilet, we meet Tomáš from Lilka, who asks if we’re heading out again next year. My son confirms it without hesitation. So, we’ll see! Thank you for the opportunity to experience this together again.
