Stezka Ceskem: Day 5 – Wildlife, Beer & Changing Weather

Gazebo Night & Early Start

The night in the gazebo was decent, less damp than expected, though the wind did sneak in now and then. From 2:30 to 5:00 AM, we were entertained by deer sparring in the nearby woods. We hit the trail at 7:45 AM.

Crossing Saint Sebastian’s Mountain

We passed through Hora sv. Šebestiána, topping up our supplies. The town was smaller and a bit more run-down than I’d pictured. From there, we continued on the red trail through some lovely countryside.

Refresher at Samotoč

Along the way, we stumbled upon a self-service pub – Samotoč – where we poured ourselves some Rohozec 11. That beer was a welcome pick-me-up and definitely boosted our spirits.

Weather Turns & Wildlife Encounters

The weather started to turn, with rain predicted for the next few days.

We spotted a wild boar and a rather fancy little cabin on our route.

Throughout the day, we saw a good variety of wildlife: mosquitoes, various insects, tadpoles, frogs, flocks of birds, hares, does with fawns, and even heard a stag crashing into a fenced enclosure.

Overnight in Nová Ves v Horách

We made it to Nová Ves v Horách and checked into a room. A hot shower and the chance to do laundry were much appreciated.
