Camino Day 8: The Goal Achieved – Santiago de Compostela!

Early Start in Freezing Weather

Slept like a log, earplugs working their magic all night. Woke up just after four and couldn’t get back to sleep, so I got up around six and prepped for the day. At 6:30, still dark and a chilly 4°C, I set off. It was seriously cold.

Breakfast and Dawn

Before eight, the horizon started to lighten. When I spotted a place for breakfast, I couldn’t resist. Coffee and a croissant for €3 were a solid choice. My fingers were so frozen I could barely write anything. Twenty minutes later, I stepped outside, and it was fully light. No need for my headlamp anymore.

Quick Progress to the Finish

The trail, perhaps thanks to the cold, flew by, and my legs felt good.

Arrival in Santiago de Compostela

At 10 AM, I finally made it to Santiago de Compostela!

Getting the Certificate and Meeting Anna

I sorted out my pilgrim’s certificate.

I was sitting in front of the cathedral when I spotted Anna. We waved, she came over and sat down next to me, and we “caught up.”

Accommodation and City Walk

I found a place to stay and spent the rest of the day wandering the city, this time without my backpack.

Plans for Tomorrow

Tomorrow, I’ll have to move on, wherever that may be.
