After a lot of thought, my injured leg forced me to change my plans. Instead of continuing my pilgrimage to Fisterra or lingering in Santiago, I hopped on a bus to Porto. The route I’d walked for a week took just 4.5 hours by coach.
By Bus from Santiago to Porto
The bus ride reminded me why I’m not a fan of long coach journeys – stifling air and winding highways. Thankfully, I made it without incident, though I did lose my neck pillow in the hasty disembarkation.
Upon arrival, I grabbed some lunch and then headed into the city center.

I found accommodation – a two-night apartment for 4,000 Czech Koruna. It’s pricey, sure, but having my own space in a hotel-style setup is a welcome comfort. The apartment itself is quite nice and low-key.

Plans for the Coming Days
I’m planning to spend two days in Porto. I’d like to get down to the ocean and take my time exploring the city. On Wednesday morning, after a rather costly flight change, I’ll be flying home. I’m hoping everything goes smoothly and I’ll be reunited with my family and friends soon. Porto has plenty to offer. Definitely worth a wander through the historic Ribeira district, a visit to the Sé do Porto cathedral, and a climb up the Torre dos Clérigos for a good city panorama. Don’t forget to sample the local Port wine and take a boat trip on the Douro River. For some downtime, you could hit up one of the local beaches.
